Glimpses of some Hejje Foundation Initiatives

Skill Training for Women

A team from Suruchi Foundation, an NGO from Bangalore, conducted a skills training programme for women in Badrapura village. Badrapura is largely populated by people of the Hakki-Pikki tribe, who were once nomadic, but have now settled in homes given to them by the government.

The day-long programme in paper bag making, conducted in the Panchayat Hall, was intended to help participants learn a skill that would add to their income. The Foundation gave each participant the raw material needed to make these bags and the tools required. Participants were told about the importance of a plastic free environment, and how use of paper bags is now both relevant and increasingly popular. They were also shown how to work with different types of paper and how to market their products. Additionally, women were educated on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene and had a first -time lesson in meditation, conducted by Ms Joyce.
